"Colonies of Kobol" First Drafts Giveaway

EDIT: We have winners!  Chris, Josh, and Mark ... congrats!

These are the first two out of sixteen books I've finished in the Colonies of Kobol trilogy (Confused? Read this.)

Why did I do these to start with?  Because they follow the Final Five.  Book One is about the Five on Earth and their escape; in Book Fourteen, they reach the Colonies during the Cylon War, put an end to it, help create organic Cylons, etc.  (Largely, the latter book is about the rise of Cavil.)

What may change?  A lot.  Anything.  I'll likely be inserting additional chapters, changing word choices, altering dialogue, ...  These are first drafts, after all.  (The first draft of Lords of Kobol - Book One would be nigh unrecognizable to you guys.)

Answer me these questions three.

  1. What was the name of the ship Kara was given to aid in her quest to find Earth?  (BSG, "Six of One" - "The Road Less Traveled")
  2. What was the name of the Tauron businessman whose company created a critical component used to complete Graystone Industries' U-87 Cylon prototype?  (Caprica, "Pilot")
  3. Which Lord of Kobol did a Messenger of The One True God impersonate as it guided Aurora in her mission to aid the Thirteenth Tribe's flight from Kobol?  (Lords of Kobol - Book One: Apotheosis)

Answers: 1. Demetrius; 2. Tomas Vergis; 3. Hades

EDIT: We have winners!  Chris, Josh, and Mark ... congrats!

  2. Hi Mr. Yeatts,
Any updates on the release dates? I have checked back a few times. I had posted back in January, I was the one who suggested maybe submitting the stories for comic book adaptation and also am the one whose wife had passed away and had read the Kobol books when I was caught up in a severe depression and was trying to break out of it. Doing better now, still haven't gotten over it ( you can't just undo 20 years in a couple...).

I wish I saw this contest back then. This wait is stressing me out because I want to read these stories so much. The Kobol series you wrote was a important part in my escaping from the depression over my wife's passing. My counselor made me find 3 positive things to focus on. I worked on reconnecting with some family, getting my amateur radio license (KF4KLF general in case anyone reading is also a HAM) and reading and the Kobol books were a big part of that since I love sci-fi. Between yourself and Terry Brooks Shannara series I had a lot of great reading material. But now I got hooked on Kobol!
Any word on a release or if you plan on having another contest? If I had hair I'd have pulled it out already!

Thanks for the great stories and also for helping me out of a very dark place.

    Mike

p.s. Did you ever consider using Iblis as a character? I know he is in a whole different story universe, but hear me out... perhaps he could be a character in opposite to the messengers, a fallen messenger so to speak. Or barring that metaphysical aspect, perhaps he could be involved somehow in the creation of the cylon colonies, a megalomaniac business owner who has allied himself religiously and supplies technology and builds weapons and vessels for the cylons. They have to get it somewhere. Perhaps he knows they are on to some greater tech via the final five and wants in and supplies material for access to their knowledge. Perhaps in the cylons one God religion there is always a question of is he working for the "other side" of the one true God or is he just a really bad person who wants to get his hands on tech that may extend his life (it happened before it just might happen again...lol) or make him immortal.... I don't know just a thought on some ways to make introducing Iblis into the stories. Doesn't need to be the actual devil but a very bad human who want to live forever (would a evil human who had access to advanced tech and was immortal due to being able to transfer bodies and travelled the galaxy looking for more less advanced humans or other possible life be considered a God by those less advanced...he could adapt his bodies to have gravity/magnetic projectors to move things and advanced form of em reading tech to read the electrical impulses in the brain and read minds....) Theres a whole lot of ways to portray Iblis, these were just off the top of my head, imagine if you put serious thought into it, it would be awesome!

  3. Thank you so much. Only a couple years late did I catch this.
Say here's a Iblis character update... What if Corporate mogul evil Iblis was the promised immortality for helping the cyclons? What if the old man Hybrid from Razor is Iblis? He thought he was getting a young cloned body but the cyclons never promised HOW.... Heh heh heh twirling hanebar moustache end)
Thank you and have a great day
